Job Summary Department Specific Responsibilities Oversees and directs communications for Kinsey Institute, by creating and carrying out strategic communication plans and related activities that promote the institute's groundbreaking advancements in research, collections, and education.
Develops and evaluates new strategies to advance Kinsey Institute's brand and strengthen its reputation as an international leader based on data and insights.
Works closely with Kinsey Institute leadership and University Communications & Marketing to set communications and marketing goals and objectives in paid, earned, and owned media.
Assists in the development and execution of crisis communications and emerging issues management communications.
Collaborates with the Kinsey Institute's Director of Development and IU Foundation partners to create communications and campaigns supporting fundraising efforts.
Supervises Kinsey Institute online properties, social media accounts, newsletters, and external communications.
Manage media training and effective storytelling for Kinsey Institute researchers, librarians, and curators.
Coordinates media placement of Kinsey Institute research findings and faculty experts, with both local venues involving IU students and community members and with national/international press.
Actively contributes to a professionally rigorous, scientifically inquisitive, and non-judgmental working environment.
In collaboration with University Communications & Marketing, formulate, assess, and implement strategic communications plans that range from fundamental to intricate in nature in order to advance the achievement of established data-driven goals and objectives.
Refines and optimizes standards and processes to ensure productivity, quality, transparency, and stakeholder satisfaction.
Ensures compliance with Indiana University brand standards.
Performs other related duties as needed.
General Responsibilities Directs operations for the marketing and communications function by providing oversight and direction within a department, large multi-faceted department, or multiple departments.
Hires, trains, evaluates, coaches, assigns work, sets goals and objectives, determines staffing needs, and directs the work of a team of Communications Generalists and/or Communications Assistants.
Manages relationships with various internal and external stakeholders; determines communications needs, projects, and programs to align with objectives and goals and manages processes such as the development of communications timelines related to such initiatives.
Reviews drafts of communications and projects and coaches on grammar, tone, branding guidelines, formatting, and other elements that may affect the perception of messaging or reputation of the department.
Responds to escalated and complex inquiries and requests and explains policies, procedures, and context of communications.
Assists in budget planning and administration for communications initiatives, including expenditures, revenue projections, and program costs.
Monitors industry trends and best practices, makes process and operational and strategic recommendations to manager, and assists in implementing recommendations to optimize operations and progress toward objectives.
Ensures campaigns and initiatives are integrated, cohesive, compelling, effective, consistent across platforms, and deliver a strong ROI May provide guidance to lower-level Communications Leaders.
